Morten Hagland Hansen

Mr. Hansen started his martial arts journey in 1987 in Haugesund, Norway. He began training in Japanese Jujutsu under the instruction of John-Arild Birkeland. He achieved the rank of 3rd kyu in the system.

Mr. Hansen began training in the Filipino Martial Art Modern Arnis under Guru Are Larsen (now known as Sazen Larsen Kusano) until Guru Larsen moved to Japan. Mr. Hansen then trained under Punong Guru Johan Skaalberg and tested for 2nd class in Modern Arnis during the 2nd International Modern Arnis Summer Camp in Lubeck, Germany in 1991. He was at this time running a Modern Arnis club in Haugesund, Norway with around 15 students. Mr. Hansen later moved to Stavanger, Norway where he taught Modern Arnis at a local Ju-Jutsu school and then began training in Kyoshinkai Karate under instructor Jarle Sundvor. Mr. Hansen reached the rank of 9th kyu upon moving to Houston in 2001.

In Houston, Mr. Hansen’s family began training at Texas Martial Arts in Katy under Sensei Rick Eirdam. Mr. Hansen continued to train when Sensei Wade Kirkpatrick took over instruction at Texas Martial Arts and received his Black Belt in 2007.
